Ladies, December
is here and with the holidays it’s the end of the year. There’s so much going on and yet
not enough time to totally enjoy it all.
First of all I would like to thank all of you for giving me the
opportunity to the President this year.
It’s been a wonderful experience and I’ve met so many great
people. It’s a pleasure to
know that Jan Smith the incoming President and the New Board will do and
outstanding job for Women’s Division this coming year. The
Women’s Division has had a very fast and furious nine months with the
changing of the calendar year to coincide with the Grapevine Chamber,
updating our Guidelines and Procedures, and most of all setting up the
organization to go on line with our web site. We couldn’t have done this
without all the hard work of Sandi Urban, Shelley Ruddick, and Linda
Oliver. When you see them
please give them thanks for all they have done. I’d
like to say Thank You to the current Board of the Women’s Division for a
job well done and a sad Good Bye to those who will no longer be on the
Board. New blood is always
welcomed and with that comes new ideas and growth for the organization.
You have the tools to make this the best year yet and I wish all of you
the best! Many
thanks go to all who helped with the Holiday Charity Ball. BJ Wilson, Janice Kane, Casey Hege
and all the ladies did a fantastic job in making the Ball a huge success! Congratulations go to Jane Chevier,
the new “Woman of the Year.” Jane
is so deserving of the honor! I
wish all of you a Happy and Prosperous Holiday Season and New Year! Candy
Letica President
The rolling totes we’ve purchased for GRACE’s senior and disabled clients are soon to be filled with a selection of 22 useful household items, and beautifully wrapped Christmas Spirit Wish Tree gifts are filling up an entire room in our storefront workspace. The Wal-Mart gift cards and sheets of Forever Stamps have been tucked into envelopes with greetings for each recipient. All of these things will be delivered this Saturday, with the help of Women’s Division and community volunteers, and the wonderful men from Ambucs. This year the Women’s Division has itself adopted one of GRACE’s clients. He’s a disabled and very ill Veteran who has just returned home to Grapevine with little more than basic clothing. With the help of a childhood friend, GRACE, and Women’s Division’s Christmas Spirit volunteers, he is settling into a small trailer home that will be fully furnished and equipped with all the household goods, cookware, dishes, flatware, cookware, linens, and appliances that he needs. Warm winter clothing and personal items will show up on his doorstep on Saturday. He will have a wonderful Christmas. We’ve even provided a Christmas tree! Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help with this project by stuffing envelopes, shopping, wrapping, filling totes, or delivering gifts. It’s a huge undertaking, and we couldn’t do it without each and every one of you. You are extraordinary! Gratefully, Linda Montgomery and Jane Chevier, Co-Chairs Christmas Spirit, 2009
Thank you so much to the Woman's Division for giving
me the honor of being the Woman of the Year for 2008. Being selected when
there are so many deserving women still amazes me. Being in the Parade of
Lights was a lot of fun and I got to see many of you along the route. It
was my pleasure to announce Jane Chevier as the 2009 Woman of the Year.
Jane has been an amazing volunteer for Grace, the Women's Division and
many other organizations. Many of her children and grandchildren were on
hand for the presentation. Congratulations Jane - hope you have as much
fun this year as I did. LuAnn Chapman Gatts

Ladies, Congratulations to everyone for a wonderful evening of shared friendships and accomplishments at the 35th Holiday Charity Ball! The party was such a success and such a fun evening for everyone! Our organization has so much to celebrate for the year and for the gifts we have been able to share with those in need in our community. The accomplishments we have made under Candy’s leadership are significant and will make the 2010 Board member’s jobs much easier. Linda Oliver has been a gifted treasurer and we have balanced books moving into 2010 thanks to her diligence in the accounting processes. I am looking forward to 2010 and all the year has to offer! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s to all……you inspire me everyday and I hope you recognize how much your individual accomplishments are appreciated! Jan Smith
Lori and I want to thank everyone who participated in the Vendor Fair. It’s nice to give our members a place to showcase their business. I hope all that participated received some good feedback and new customers for their business. Lori and I want to
thank everyone that was involved in one of our programs this year.
We had fun getting it all together. Lori and Nancy .. Additionally Girls,
Whew! The
Holiday Charity Ball is now over and what a fun party it was. There are so many thank you’s to
go out as it was truly a group effort.
Special thanks go to Janice Kane for acting as the hotel liaison
and just generally keeping me on track; Shelley Ruddick for handling
sponsors; Casey Hege for putting together a fantastic auction and handling
all of the fundraising for the night; Carolyn Lease for taking care of
reservations and tickets; Sandi Urban for putting together the webpage,
getting us set up to be able to sell tickets via the internet and for
handling much of the publicity; Sandra Tate for handling the print
publicity; Candy Letica, Sonia Altschul, and Kathee Livengood for heading
up the decorating team; Theresa Blackwell for the awesome snowman and
snowwoman as well as for putting together some last minute auction
descriptions; Kathy DeMaggio and Joan Rawson for signage; Linda Oliver who
somehow made sense and kept track of all the monies and for all of the
volunteers who solicited auction items, helped get the room ready on
Saturday and those who volunteered so graciously as needed during the
event itself. My head is still
reeling so I apologize if I’ve forgotten someone. Additional thank you's to the sponsors who
generously donated funds to support this effort. Box Insurance Agency was our
Presenting Sponsor. Blagg Tire
and Service and A final thank you to Keith Miller of G.R.A.C.E. who
acted as our emcee. The final numbers are not yet in, but it appears
that the event was successful in raising funds for our two programs –
Christmas Spirit and School Supplies - as the auction brought in over
$14,000. Our final expenses
should be in soon and we’ll hopefully have a total for you at the
meeting next week. ...and The Auction From my perspective the
auction was a great success! Guests were really moved by the words spoken by the
Presenting Sponsor, Dustin Parker at Box Insurance! I can't
report the final numbers yet, but I am really pleased with
the initial count. With the dramatic increase we saw in the need for
our programs, I am so happy that we may come close to matching that
need with an increase in our fundraising! | |
