Happy New Year Everyone!

The Women’s Division had a very busy December, 2009 as we celebrated the “spirit of Christmas” with more than 100 area seniors.  Linda Montgomery and her energetic team of Women’s Division “elves” created smiles, hugs, and precious memories for everyone involved!  Thanks so much for your individual contributions and generosity of giving to ensure a senior in need felt the warmth and true meaning of Christmas.

We celebrated the success of 2009 at the annual Holiday Charity Ball held the first week of December.  Special thanks to BJ Wilson and her entire team for a very successful fundraiser and a very fun night for everyone!  Congratulations to Jane Chevier, named Woman of the Year for her outstanding leadership and volunteerism throughout the community.  Additionally, save the date, the 2010 Holiday Charity Ball will be Saturday, December 4, 2010!

I am very excited about the opportunities ahead for the Women’s Division in 2010.  Our fiscal year begins in January and it’s time to renew memberships at the Women’s Division Membership Social on Tuesday, January 19th, 11:30, Stacy’s Community Room.  Kathee Livengood and Shonda Schaefer have put together a fun social gathering for us, so please bring friends and coworkers to join and grow the Women’s Division in 2010.

My focus for the year is to build on the great attributes of the Women’s Division and continue our efforts of “service from the heart” throughout our community.  Our organization is truly the heart of the Chamber by the actions we collectively take to help make Grapevine a great place to work and live.  Along with the 2010 Board and our entire amazing membership of women we will continue to seek ways to promote business networking in Grapevine and to assist those in need in our community through our service outreach.  As we begin 2010, I am excited and blessed with the opportunity to lead our team this year and thank you in advance for your support.

As the New Year begins we would like to extend a very warm Thank You to Linda Montgomery and her co-chair Jane Chevier for their considerable contributions and efforts in managing the Christmas Spirit projects for the last 2 years.  They did an outstanding job and it will definitely be a difficult but welcome challenge to follow their commendable performance.

In December, the Women’s Division of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce under the direction of Linda and Jane brought smiles and happiness to 105 senior and disabled GRACE clients by delivering a wheeled tote bag full of personal care and cleaning products with a $75 Wal-Mart gift card, U.S.P.S. forever stamps and piles of beautifully wrapped and personally selected gifts donated by our own members and many generous people in our community.

It was a joy to see so many Women’s Division and Ambucs members and their families working together to organize, load and deliver the gifts with hearts full of Christmas spirit.

We are very grateful for the help and support we received from the people and businesses in the community to make this another successful year.  Special contributions included:

·        Donations of gifts, funds and space to store the gifts from the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce

·        Marcus Wayland gave us the use of a storefront in his shopping center

·        Dollar General filled our order for supplies and gathered special Christmas items from various stores to meet our needs.

·        Tracy Hunnicut brought friends and equipment to transfer our supplies from Dollar General to the storefront

·        Wal-Mart expedited the purchase of gift cards

·        Grapevine Community Activities Center provided space for our “Pal Tree” and safely stored gifts as they were received until we could pick them up

·        Senior Services Alliance gave us a cash donation

·        Marvin and Ronda Owens of Hometown Cookie Co.

·        Touch of Grace for providing beds and other essential furniture

·        Idell Bowker and GRACE

There were also many special contributions from individual members of the Women’s Division.  A special thank you goes to Duff O’Dell, Kathee Livengood, Joan Rawson of Impact Signs and Graphics , Elaine Capers of Rapid Refill Ink, Marion Napurano of Faux Pas Jewelry, Melissa Green and Phyllis Smith of Senior Movers, Sandra Tate, Nancy Coplen, Norma Duane Kathy DeMaggio of About Advertising and Dorothy Culberson.

Appreciation also goes to Robin Smith who was on hand to help with all of the activities needed to complete this project and who has agreed to co-chair the Christmas Spirit Program in 2010.

We are looking forward to this year’s Christmas Spirit Program and a chance to work with so many amazing women in our organization and people in our community to provide special gifts and school supplies to GRACE clients.

Sincerely,

         ... from the President-Elect

I am so very excited to kick-off not only another New Year – 2010! – but also another great Women’s Division year of working side-by-side with such talented and dedicated women to achieve our goals of supporting our community, but especially our children and senior citizens in need.  I am honored to be serving as your President-Elect.  I hope all of your enjoyed the installation program presented by Duff O’Dell at our December meeting and learned as many new things about the members of our new Board as I did.  The Women’s Division Board and members continuously demonstrate “service from the heart” with what each member individually and what we collectively do for our community.

The Membership Social is right around the corner, and I hope each of you plan to attend and bring a friend.  Increasing our “service from the heart” to our community by adding new members is everyone’s role.  Our Membership Social will be Tuesday, January 19, and we hope to see you with your new Women’s Division friends there.  As a reminder, our annual membership dues are only $40, we do accept credit cards, and you can pre-pay lunches for the entire year.  Please remember to copy and bring your membership and website directory information forms to join our group of “heartfelt” women who tirelessly and passionately serve our community of Grapevine.

I look forward to seeing you soon at our membership social, meeting new friends, and working with all of you this year!

Janice Kane

     ... From the Treasurer

 Hello Ladies,

It is my pleasure to serve as your new treasurer as we enrich our community with “service from the heart”.   Each of us has wonderful gifts and talents to help make this a very successful year for the Women’s Division.

I am very grateful to Linda Oliver, our past treasurer, for her gift of excellent accounting in the 2009 change from fiscal year to calendar year.  She accomplished more in this unique situation than any past or future treasurers have been or will be asked to do.  Linda has established a good foundation in the treasury systems that will benefit the Women’s Division as we continue our noble mission.

Thank you Linda Oliver!

Martha Walker,
