The Women’s Division had a very successful Vendor Fair in June.  What a great day for showcasing businesses, products and leadership.  Thanks to Balla Wright and Paula Wilbanks for coordinating such a successful networking opportunity for our membership.  Additionally, during the meeting we were pleased to receive monies earned from the Main Street Days beer booth project and successful T-Shirt sales.  Special thanks again to Lavon Bolech and all the volunteers who made the festival a success and to our friends at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau for the presentation.

The 2nd Chance School supplies project was completed as school ended the first week of June.  We are grateful to all the schools, children, teachers, parents, business leaders and volunteers who assisted in the collection of gently used school supplies.  Special recognition is extended to Nancy Coplan and Nancy Reid for coordinating the project and for identifying a school district in east Texas in need of the supplies.  The shipments are on the way to assist needs for the next school year.

Linda Swirski and Robin Smith have been very busy planning for the upcoming “Christmas in July” project featuring surprise packages and visits for over 100 seniors.    Additionally, we have begun planning the backpack/school supply project to support the needs of 695 children in GCISD.

Remember to Save the Date!  SeniorFest is Saturday, August, 7th!  Helen Jean Lucas Reid and Sandra Tate are co-chairing the “Swing Into the 40’s” event to be held 5 p.m.–9:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Convention Center.  This is our annual free dinner, dance and entertainment for over 200 area seniors.  The event also honors our veterans and a special presentation of the individual selected to be “Veteran of the Year for 2010”.  This event is one of the most precious examples of the results of our hard work throughout the year.  Seeing firsthand the joy in the faces of the seniors as we treat them to a fun night on the town is truly rewarding.  Please get involved and be there to volunteer the night of the event and help us celebrate with our seniors!

The Women’s Division Luncheon Meeting on Tuesday, July 20th will host an informative program regarding the status and updates for the DFW Connector Project.

RSVP required:   msjkane@sbcglobal.net.

I’ll look forward to seeing you on July 20th!

       ... from the President-Elect

Special thanks to Balla Wright and Paula Wilbanks for organizing a fabulous member vendors’ fair in June AND to our many members who participated for sharing their talents and services!

Please join us in welcoming our newest members – Amanda Buczek, LaDeDa Pet Spa; Pam Massie, Peoples Bank, and Faith Tennyson, The Queen of Declutter.  Our membership continues to grow with 138 members as of the end of June!

The 2010 Women’s Division Membership Directory was published and sent out electronically to all members, and hard copies were distributed at the May membership luncheon.  We will also have hard copies available again at our July membership luncheon.   However, you can renew you membership anytime, so if you have not already done so, please take the time now to renew your membership for our fiscal year January 1 – December 31, 2010.  Membership forms can be found online, and we always have them available at our monthly luncheon meetings.  We will send updates to the membership directory electronically and in our monthly newsletter throughout the year.

Members have the option this year of purchasing a magnetic Women’s Division nametag with your name and/or company’s name for $5.00 each.  Order forms for nametags are also available online and at the monthly meetings.

Please remember to RSVP for our monthly luncheon being held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, 11:30 a.m. at Stacy's Furniture Community Room, 3rd Floor.  Reservations can be made by emailing msjkane@sbcglobal.net or calling (817) 360-0684.  Please plan to attend and bring a guest to learn about Women’s Division and our service to our community.

The cost of our luncheon is $15.00 with advance reservation, $17.00 if you RSVP to attend and do not show, and $25.00 without a reservation.  We have the capability to accept credit cards, and you can pay online for your membership dues, monthly luncheons, pre-pay for the year, and all other Women’s Division activities.

Again, please join us to give your “Service from the Heart” to our community as a member of the Grapevine Women's Division!

I look forward to seeing everyone at our July luncheon!

    ...SeniorFest

Plans for SeniorFest 2010 (August 7th) are progressing very well. I appreciate all of you who have volunteered your time, talents and monies towards making this event successful.

We are still in need of people to help decorate and tear down after the evening’s festivities, as well as additional table sponsors and table-hops. We have a fun theme, Swinging into the Forties. Sign-up sheets will be available at our July 20th meeting. The seniors always look forward to this celebration, so please sign up to be a part of it.

Thanks,

 MPj04463990000[1]... Christmas Spirit 2010

Christmas in July

Most of the Christmas in July gifts for the seniors have been ordered.  Our packages will contain small personal items, stamps and gift cards.  Please plan on joining us to assemble these gifts on Monday, July 19th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce Board Room.  GRACE distributes the gifts with the monthly commodity deliveries.  A reminder email will be sent out the week before.

School Supplies 2010

The school supply packs have been ordered from Educational Products, Inc. (EPI).  We were also able to purchase $15 gift cards from Payless Shoes for each child thanks to the fund raising efforts of the Women’s Division. We will be distributing school supplies, gift cards and backpacks on Thursday, August 19th at the Grapevine Community Activity Center from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.  We will need volunteers to help with distribution and for set up on Wednesday, August 18th as well.  Sign up sheets will be available at this month’s meeting.

Backpacks – We have a little over 100 backpacks so far.  580 more are needed!

All of the backpacks collected so far are from donations to GRACE.  Most of these backpacks are dark colors suitable for high school students.  We are going to need lots of Princess and Super Hero or Character back packs for the younger children and packs that the children in the middle grades would like.

Please help us out by donating whatever you can in backpacks or money that we can use to purchase them.  You can bring them to the July Women’s Division Luncheon or call one of us to make arrangements for pick up or drop off.  You can contribute money at the meeting or online on the Women’s Division Web Site.

 …. Second Chance School Supplies

We were delighted to have Tracy Hunneycutt with driver Ralph Ryan deliver half of the collected school supplies to Athens Intermediate School this past week. Principal Janie Sims stated in an email; “I was so surprised when I found all of those boxes filled to the brim with items our students will need this coming school year.  We appreciate your generosity and that of the organization you represent.”

The other half of the supplies will be delivered to Rising Star Elementary later this summer. Thank you again to all of those who helped with collecting the school supplies!
