May was a busy month for the Women’s Division and the spotlight was shining on many members!

Special thanks to Lavon Bolech who led the “Beer Babes” volunteers who “wo-manned” all the beer booths on Friday, May 21st during the Main Street Days festival.  Lavon assumed a huge project in coordinating the effort and did an outstanding job!  Please remember to give her big kudos when you see her!  What a fun and memorable weekend to showcase our Chamber and our City!  Thanks so much to the entire Women’s Division volunteers and their families and friends who joined in the fun to assist!

Our own Gayle Hall received a prestigious award as a star professional among all of Texas’s festival and event leaders.  We are proud of you Gayle and recognize all the hard work you do on behalf of our organization and Grapevine!

Lavon Bolech, Mary Beth Burlet, Amanda Calongne, Elaine Capers, Sharon Kircher, and Debi Meek were among the 23 graduates in the 2009-10 Leadership Grapevine class graduating at the Chamber luncheon meeting on May 13th.

Darcy Borutta, RaDonna Hessel, Jennifer Hibbs, Teri Kinsey, Rachel Nobles, Duff O’Dell, Shelley Ruddick, Shonda Schaefer, Kim Schuld, Jenna Wazac, and BJ Wilson were honored for their work as Leadership Grapevine alumni who creatively designed the curriculum and helped coordinate the new leadership program implemented for 2009-10.

Idell and Gary Bowker received a special award among seniors who have been dedicated volunteers for years in Tarrant County!

We look forward to June 11th when we’ll gather at the Palace for an evening of fun to celebrate “Edith’s Follies” hosted by our beloved Dr. Edith Pewitt.   Sue Franks will entertain us on stage and this is a guaranteed packed house event!  Buy your tickets early!!

Service from the Heart is our mantra this year, and I hope each of you know how much your diligence is recognized and appreciated!  Our organization continues to make a difference in the community in Grapevine and our members are proven leaders and stars in every endeavor.

The Women’s Division Luncheon Meeting program on Tuesday, June 15th will be a Vendor Fair for Women’s Division members to showcases their businesses and network with colleagues.   There is no cost to our Women’s Division vendors, but reservations for a vendor table are due to Balla Wright and Paul Wilbanks by June 10th.

I look forward to seeing you at the June 15th meeting!!

       ... from the President-Elect

Special thanks to Sue Franks, Ross Bannister, Keith Warren and Patsy Daussat for their very informative and entertaining program in May regarding Grapevine’s Palace Theater and the upcoming Edith’s Follies!

Please join us in welcoming our newest members – Karen Deakin, GCISD Trustee, and Kirsten Karlsen, Teacher.  Our membership continues to grow with 135 members as of the end of May!

The 2010 Women’s Division Membership Directory was published and sent out electronically to all members, and hard copies were distributed at the May membership luncheon.  We will also have hard copies available at our June membership luncheon.   However, you can renew you membership anytime, so if you have not already done so, please take the time now to renew your membership for our fiscal year January 1 – December 31, 2010.  Membership forms can be found online, and we always have them available at our monthly luncheon meetings.  We will send updates to the membership directory electronically and in our monthly newsletter throughout the year (see below*).

In addition, members have the option this year of purchasing a magnetic Women’s Division nametag with your name and/or company’s name for $5.00 each.  Order forms for nametags are also available online and at the monthly meetings.

Please remember to RSVP for our monthly luncheon being held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 11:30 a.m. at Stacy's Furniture Community Room, 3rd Floor.  Reservations can be made by emailing msjkane@sbcglobal.net or calling (817) 360-0684.  Please plan to attend and bring a guest to learn more about what our members’ businesses, talents and interests at our members’ vendor fair.

The cost of our luncheon is $15.00 with advance reservation, $17.00 if you RSVP to attend and do not show, and $25.00 without a reservation.  We have the capability to accept credit cards, and you can pay online for your membership dues, monthly luncheons, pre-pay for the year, and all other Women’s Division activities.

Again, please join us to give your “Service from the Heart” to our community as a member of the Grapevine Women's Division!

I look forward to seeing everyone at our June luncheon!

 MPj04463990000[1]... Christmas Spirit 2010

Christmas in July

We will be giving gifts to GRACE senior and disabled clients in July again this year.  We are looking for a small container and personal care products or items that would be appropriate for both males and females.  If you have something available through your business, please let one of us know so we can consider it for this project.  Last year we used a plastic shoebox size reusable container.  Keep in mind that we generally purchase inexpensive dollar store type products to maximize our budgeted funds.  We will be assembling these gifts on Monday, July 19th from 5 to 7 at the Chamber of Commerce.  GRACE distributes them with the monthly commodity deliveries.  More information will be coming to you via email.

School Supplies 2010

We have been working with vendors to provide school supply packs and possibly gift certificates for shoes to children for the school year beginning in fall of 2010.  We work closely with GRACE through Idell Bowker to qualify families who would benefit from this type of assistance.  As any parent knows, the school supply requirements are extensive and costly.  Thanks to the fund raising efforts of the Women’s Division we are able to help area children to be well equipped for the school year along with the others in their classrooms.

Backpacks – Once again we will be requesting assistance from Women’s Division members to provide backpacks to go along with the school supplies.  This is the fun part of this project for us and for the children.  From the youngest children hoping for a princess or super hero pack to the teenagers looking for something cool that their friends will approve of, this is the most important item.

We need 695 backpacks this year.  Please help us out by donating whatever you can in back packs or money that we can use to purchase them.  You can bring them to the July Women’s Division Luncheon or call one of us to make arrangements for pick up or drop off.  Many stores have backpacks on sale now that the school year is ending.

We will be distributing school supplies all day on August 19th from the Grapevine Community Activities Center and more information will be sent to you via email.

 …. Second Chance School Supplies

Second Chance School Supplies is up and running thanks to the dedicated ladies of the Grapevine Women’s Division. Boxes are in the schools and items being collected will be going to the Athens ISD.  This is a fun project. I hope you will consider helping next year.
