In February, the Women’s Division enjoyed an opportunity to support our friends in the Grapevine Ambucs with their annual fundraiser by entering the bowling contest held at the Main Event.  Our bowling skills earned us a lovely new trophy featuring the “backside of a horse”.  Yes, we came in last place!!  So, we haven’t improved our bowling skills year over year, but our pride and enthusiasm in supporting a great cause is ever strong!  A special thanks is extended Judee Brown for doing a super job in coordinating the bowling project and inspiring a huge turn-out.

Kathee Livengood provided a wonderful 45 year Women’s Division history lesson during the February program!  Kathee’s research was extensive and we plan to post the history of the organization on our website in the near future.  The next luncheon meeting is March 16th and features Hill School’s Principal Kathy Edwards sharing the attributes of this special private school.  Remember to RSVP for the March 16th luncheon meeting to Janice Kane, msjkane@sbcglobal.net

Important Update……Janice Kane is working on completion of the membership directory and the deadline for membership to be included in the printing is March 31st.  The directory will be published in April.

A special thanks is extended Dr. Janelle Perkins and Joanne Ryan for hosting the “Small Business Boot Camp” on Saturday, February 27th at the Grapevine Convention Center.    Unfortunately I was only able to attend a part of the conference, but what I was able to attend was excellent.  Topics covering all aspects of small business ownership with excellent speakers and supporting resources provided.  Proceeds from the event were graciously donated to the Women’s Division.  Special thanks to Debra Spronz, Linda Montgomery, and Marina Ward for assisting with check-in.

The Women’s Division currently sponsors two annual events to raise funds for programs assisting children and seniors in need in our community.  The two fundraiser events are the Great Taste of Grapevine in April and the Holiday Charity Ball in December.

Please remember to post the fundraisers on your calendars as SAVE THE DATES!

Thurs. April 8th, 5:30-8:30 pm, Great Taste of Grapevine, Hilton DFW Lakes!   Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Sat., December 4th, 6:30 – 11pm, Holiday Charity Ball, Embassy Suites

Each Women’s Division member is asked to sell at least 10 tickets to the Great Taste event.  Contact Shelley Ruddick to obtain tickets to sell or drop by the Chamber office.  Also, take advantage of the Great Taste event as an opportunity to market your business.  Great Taste “Vouchers” are available at the Chamber office to reward key customers!  Give your customers a voucher as a symbol of your gratitude for their business!  You are only billed for vouchers submitted by customers who attend the event.

I look forward to seeing you at the March 16th meeting!

Jan Smith

  …. Second Chance School Supplies

In just over 2 months we will be gearing up for our annual Women's Division Second Chance School Supplies project to help a needy school/district with supplies.

We have had many members sign up to help but need to have more join us with this project. The service entails being assigned a school in the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and the various responsibilities for collecting supplies.

It is a short two week project with huge benefits for some deserving students needing school supplies. So look for the sign up at our next 3 luncheon meetings or contact us.

Thanks for your support.

         ... from the President-Elect

Special thanks goes to Kathee Livengood for her wonderful and very informative program in February regarding the 45-year history of the Women’s Division!

Please join us in welcoming our newest members that include:  Tena Burrell, Dorothy Culberson, Norma Duane, Edie Gillette, Peggy Love, Cheryl Rutherford, Patricia Starnes, Teresa Tuttle, and Maureen Walkinshaw.  Our membership continues to grow with 94 members as of the end of February.

If you have not already, please take the time now to renew your membership for our fiscal year January 1 – December 31, 2010.  Membership forms can be found online, and we will have some available at our February meeting.  We need you to complete your membership AND the website directory information forms for confirmation of information that will be printed in the membership directory and published on our website.  In order to be included in this year’s membership directory, we must have your membership form and dues submitted no later than March 31st.  The directory will go online and be distributed in April.

In addition, members have the option this year of purchasing a magnetic Women’s Division nametag with your name and/or company’s name for $5.00 each.  Order forms for nametags are also available online and at the monthly meetings.

Please remember to RSVP for our monthly luncheon being held on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 11:45 a.m. at Stacy's Furniture Community Room, 3rd Floor.  Reservations can be made by emailing msjkane@sbcglobal.net or calling (817) 360-0684.  Please plan to attend and to invite a guest to learn more from Principal Kathy Edwards program about Hill School.

The cost of our luncheon is $15.00 with advance reservation, $17.00 if you RSVP to attend and do not show, and $25.00 without a reservation.  We have the capability to accept credit cards, and you can pay online for your membership dues, monthly luncheons, pre-pay for the year, and all other Women’s Division activities.

Again, please renew your membership for 2010 to give your “Service from the Heart” to our community as a member of the Grapevine Women's Division!

I look forward to seeing everyone at our March luncheon!

 MPj04463990000[1]... Christmas Spirit 2010

We have been working with the Women’s Division Board of Directors and our contacts at GRACE to work out a Christmas Spirit budget for 2010 that will make the best use of the funds that we raise for this project.  With the economy still affecting us, we are expecting the numbers we serve to continue to increase.

To ensure that we will be able to provide school supplies and gifts at a similar level to prior years for our traditional programs, we have had to make some difficult choices.  We have decided that we will not be giving out the April Spring Sunshine Baskets that were added to the program in 2009.  We will continue with the Christmas in July and December Christmas Spirit Projects for GRACE senior and disabled clients and the School Supplies project for the children in August.

If you have a Tom Thumb Rewards card, please stop by their service desk next time you go shopping and ask them to associate your card with “Good Neighbor # 4697”for the Women’s Division so that we can take full advantage of the funds that we can earn from that program.

We would like to give a special thank you to Idell Bowker for doing the research necessary to project the client base for 2010 and her offer of assistance in managing the projects this year.

Sincerely,

Linda Swirski, SwirskiL@tx.rr.com, 817-416-8968
