  ... from the President

Ladies,

The past month has been a busy one for the ladies of the Women’s Division.  We started off with our “Chili Cook Off” evening social. A big “Thanks” goes Jenna Wazac and Kim Schuld for putting this social together and to Riverside Travel for having the social at their business.

The next day we interviewed the seniors for Christmas Spirit and what a wonderful experience that was for everyone.  Thanks to all of you for coming out on a rainy day.

The Holiday Charity Ball” is right around the corner.   BJ Wilson and Casey Hege along with their committees are working hard to make this a memorable and very profitable event this holiday season.  Please take the time to come and help.  Better yet, make your reservation to attend the ball! Remember, this is a celebration of the help that has been provided to those in need, recognizing the Women of the Year for her community services and a way of giving so the assistance can continue in our community. Reservations can be made on line by going to our web site at www.grapevinechamber-womensdiv.com and click on “Holiday Charity Ball”, email Carolyn Lease at carolyn@boxinsurance.com or calling  817.865.1805. Start the holiday season off with a worthwhile event and you may even get your Christmas shopping done early!

This month the Women’s Division will host a Vendor Fair.  Nancy Reid and Lori Hall will be sending information if you would like to set up a table to market your business or sell your products.   Reservations for the luncheon can be made by contacting Jan Smith at rbsjss@verizon.net or by calling 214.202.8700.  Mark those calendars for Tuesday, November 17th for an enjoying lunch hour of shopping and voting for your new and upcoming board.

...Christmas Spirit/School Supplies

It’s November already, and that’s Christmas Spirit season for sure!

A huge and heartfelt thank you to all of the Christmas Spirit volunteers who gathered on a very rainy October 21 to interview GRACE clients in their homes and spend some time chatting with them about their holiday wishes.  Those wishes are being transferred to a set of beautiful snowflake ornaments designed by our very own Duff O’Dell.

The Christmas Wish Tree will be officially unveiled at the Grapevine Community Activity Center Saturday, November 14, at 10 a.m., and will make an early appearance at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon November 12.  Ornaments bearing the wishes of GRACE clients will also be available for adoption at the Women’s Division luncheon on November 17 and the Anniversary Ball December 5.

As part of this Christmas Spirit project, the Women’s Division will also provide GRACE’s low income senior and disabled clients three other very welcome gifts:  a book of “Forever Stamps” from the Post Office, a gift card from Wal-Mart, plus a selection of cleaning supplies and other useful household items.  These items are being purchased in bulk from Dollar General, using funds raised by Women’s Division events over the last year.  They will be delivered in beautiful folding wheeled totes this year.

There are many ways to become involved in this worthy project. Adopt a GRACE client by claiming an ornament and have fun shopping to make their wishes come true.  Join us for a day or two in the final organizational tasks the week of December 8, and plan on participating in the best part of all, the delivery of the gifts to the homes of the recipients on the morning of Saturday, December 13.  Drivers are needed!  This is a great opportunity to involve your whole family.

Our next committee meeting is Monday, November 30, at 5:30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce.  Please join us!

Season’s Greetings!

....October Evening Social

Grapevine Women’s Division is proud to announce the winner of our Chili Cookoff:  Casey Hege

Our October social held on October 20, 2009 went off without a hitch.  We had a beautiful fall evening for the event.  Riverside Travel was so gracious to allow us to use their property for our gathering.  It was a perfect setting in their garden.  Thanks a million to Riverside Travel!  We had about 60 people in attendance and all appeared to be enjoying the fellowship, chili tasting, and spirits!  It was a wonderful time had by all.

I want to especially thank the wonderful ladies who helped set up the area for the event  and those who stayed to pack up.  It took all hands on deck to make this social another wonderful success.  And let me not fail to mention our wonderful cooks who entered their recipes (Phyllis Smith, Teri Kinsey, Casey Hege, Jane Chevier, Kim Schuld, Vicki Gallanza, Edith Pewitt, Kathee Livengood, Jan Smith, and Debbie Meek).  It was a tough decision as all entries had their own unique flavors and all were very tasty!  But in the end, Casey Hege’s recipe took top recognition!  Casey’s recipe will be entered in the Big Chamber Chili – Off as the official entry for the Grapevine Women’s Division.

I would also like to thank all those who volunteered the use of their own personal tables, chairs, ice buckets, ice chests, table cloths, etc.  It takes a lot of inventory to pull off such an event.  And as usual our members came through!!

And now………. it’s on to the Big Chamber Cook-Off :

... Holiday Charity Ball

Girlfriends,

I can't believe it's already November and just about 1 month away from the Holiday Charity Ball on Saturday, December 5th. It's time to get your tickets for this fun(draising) event! Thanks to the hard work of Shelley Ruddick and most of all Sandi Urban, tickets can be purchased online on our website or by contacting Carolyn Lease (carolyn@boxinsurance.com). Please come out and support our projects by attending this event. We will have 1 or more tables for Women's Division members, so don't be concerned that you won't know your tablemates.

There is still a bit of work to be done before the Ball. Shelley Ruddick is still trying to add a few more sponsors and Casey Hege continues to solicit auction items. If you can help these ladies in these ende
avors, please do so. Also, we are asking that each and every Women's Division member bring $20 to the luncheon in November to help purchase wine for the Wine Pull. When each of us give just a little, our efforts can be multiplied to help those in need.

We will also need volunteers to help decorate the day of the Ball. Even if you are unable to attend the ball, please consider helping in one or more ways.

Thanks so much for all you do. We are indeed making a positive difference in the lives of many students and senior citizens.

Cheers,
BJ Wilson

..Police and Fire Appreciation

The month of October was designated to the Fire and Police Departments of our city.  We like to do something special to recognize them every year.  This year both departments asked for money to apply to their special projects.  The Police Department will use the money toward a fax machine and the Fire Department toward their Annual Appreciation Banquet.  Fire Chief Steve Bass, Police Chief Eddie Salame and Assistant Police Chief Ben Flanagan will be our guests at the November luncheon.
