  ... from the President

Ladies,

It’ hard to believe that October is here and GrapeFest is behind us.  We had approximately “200 BEER BABES” pouring this year.  Huge thanks go out to all who help fill the beer booths.  Linda Swirski did a fabulous job on scheduling.

This month Linda Montgomery, Jane Chevier, and volunteers will be in high gear interviewing the seniors for Christmas Spirit Giving Tree.  The interviews will be held October 21st.  It’s a great opportunity to interview these people and an experience that is very rewarding.  Please considering helping if you can spare the time.  Linda’s email is immontgomery@charter.net or she can be reached at 817.329.4989.

The Holiday Charity Ball” is right around the corner and we are hoping to see all of you there.  BJ Wilson and her committees are working hard to make this the best ever!  Sponsors are being done by Shelley Ruddick sruddick@bnkwest.com or 817.310.3555 and Carolyn Lease will be taking your reservations at carolyn@boxinsurance.com. The theme for the ball this year is:

Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

December 5, 2009

Presenting Sponsor “Box Insurance”

Contributing Sponsors “Blagg Tire” and “WalMart”

Make your reservations today and start the holiday season off with a worthwhile event!!!  You may even get your Christmas shopping done early.

This month the Women’s Division will have our annual evening social “Chili Cook Off”.  Ladies will bring their chili to the social with hopes of taking their winning recipe to the November 12th Grapevine Chamber Chili Cook Off.  This evening social will be held at Riverside Travel in Grapevine.  Reservations can be made by contacting Jan Smith at rbsjss@verizon.net or by calling 214.202.8700.  Mark those calendars for Tuesday, October 20th for a night of great fun.

Till next month,

Candy Letica

President

...Christmas Spirit/School Supplies

Happy Holidays! We don’t want to rush the season, but October is the month we launch our final Christmas Spirit project of the year, the Christmas Spirit Wish Tree that provides holiday gifts for 100 senior and disabled GRACE clients.  The project begins when we interview the seniors to find out their holiday wants and needs, and culminates when we deliver the gifts personally in early December.

As part of this Christmas Spirit project, the Women’s Division will also provide GRACE’s low income senior and disabled clients two other very welcome gifts:  a gift card from Wal-Mart, and a selection of cleaning supplies and other household items.  These items will be purchased in bulk using Christmas Spirit funds that have been raised throughout the year at our special events, in particular the Charity Ball and Great Taste of Grapevine.

The first meeting for this project is 5:30 on Monday, October 5, at the Chamber of Commerce Offices.  We’ll lay out the details of the project, assign a few tasks, and do some training for the senior interviews that will take place on Wednesday, October 21.   An additional meeting is scheduled for November 2 and we will deliver the gifts the morning of December 12.

If you can’t make all the meetings, don’t worry!  Come when you can, and know that there are many ways to become involved in this worthy project.  The Wish Tree will make its appearance in mid-November.  Adopt a GRACE client by claiming an ornament and having fun shopping to make his or her wishes come true.  Join us for a day or two in the final organizational tasks the week of December 7, and plan on participating in the best part of all, the delivery of the gifts to the homes of the recipients on the morning of Saturday, December 12.  This is a great opportunity to involve your whole family.

I think everyone who has done this in the past will agree that it is an incredible experience, from start to finish.

Thank you, Ladies, for all your time and effort all year ‘round!

... from the President-Elect

Ladies,

Happy Fall everyone!

Wow, September was action packed with all the festivities of GrapeFest and over 265K visitors enjoying the excitement of our little City!  Thanks so much to all the Beer Babes that made it fun for the locals and the tourists, alike!  Linda Swirski did an outstanding job of coordinating the volunteer efforts and it was a fun 4 days for all!  I saw many of you volunteering for multiple groups during the 4 day festival and you continue to inspire me with the energy and love you pour into Grapevine.  Thanks for your success in making our community such a wonderful place to live and work!

The September luncheon program was excellent, leaving us with many new resources for senior planning.  Thanks so much to Lori Hall and Nancy Reid for introducing us to Tena Burrel!

Additionally, we also made new friends at the Alzheimer Association fundraiser by volunteering to man their check-in table on Sat, Sept 26th during their Walk at Grapevine Mills Mall.

We extend a huge welcome to our newest members: Jackie Compton, Natalie Dancer, Sandra Laborde, Jana McGlone, and Joanne Ryan!   Our membership has grown to 130, with 33 new members and 97 renewals.  Please remember to encourage new membership to share the Womens Division experience and grow our bouquet of talent.

The Holiday Charity Ball is December 5th.  You will be receiving e-mail communications about committee meetings being held for both the Ball and the Auction Committee.   B J Wilson is the chair for Holiday Charity Ball, e-mail: bjwilson@prosourcetexas.com.  Casey Hege is leading the Auction committee, email casey@boxinsurance.com  Please contact BJ and Casey for committee updates and to assist with coordinating the event or auction donation requests.

Mark your calendars for our next very fun gathering being held on Tuesday, October 20th,  5:30 – 7 pm at Riverside Travel.  We’ll be sampling chili, enjoying adult beverages, and sharing friendship under the stars.  This is our annual evening social and it’s a great opportunity to bring a  friend to share the joys of friendship with the Women’s Division!

Jan Smith
President-Elect

... Holiday Charity Ball

The Holiday Charity Ball will be here before we know it. There are still many opportunities to help with this event that provides funds for our School Supplies for Kids and Christmas Spirit for Seniors programs. Tthe funds raised at the Ball allow the Women's Division to provide school supplies for over 600 children in the Grapevine Colleyville ISD and also allow us to provide around 150 needy senior citizens in the area with necessities such as cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, efficient light bulbs and "forever" stamps. There are several ways you can help:

1. Participate in the auction committee as we secure donations/items for our balloon pop, wine pull, silent auction and big board.
2. Work with your business or individuals to become a sponsor of the event
3. Provide a $25 - $100 gift card for our balloon pop.
4. Donate $25 or more to provide a bottle of wine for the wine pull.
5. Purchase a ticket(s) to attend the Ball. (it's a lot of fun!)
6. Sell a ticket(s) to someone else to attend the Ball.
7. Volunteer to help with the planning and/or decorating for the Ball.

Many thanks to Shelley Ruddick for heading up the sponsorships for the Ball. Currently we have Box Insurance as Presenting Sponsor and Blagg Tire and Service and WalMart as Contributing Sponsors. Thanks also to Casey Hege for chairing the auction committee for the Ball.

Some of my best friends are members of the Women's Division and I got to know them by working side by side on programs such as the Holiday Charity Ball. I encourage each and every one of you to step forward to help others and in doing so to make a great friend.

Cheers,
BJ Wilson

... and from the Auction Committee

IMPORTANT: We are asking and NEED all Women's Division members to bring a donation
for the Balloon Pop portion of our Silent Auction to the next meeting. The Balloon Pop will have the donations that range from $25-$100 in value. The
HCB attendees will pay $25 to pop a balloon and they will receive an item that is worth at least $25. If each member will bring a gift card from a local restaurant or retailer worth $25-$100, we will be ready for the Balloon Pop which will raise $2500 our $15,000 goal if all goes to plan!

Things are definitely coming along, but we do need some help! Please contribute by asking for a donation or by fully engaging and hitting the streets to find several auction items. Contact me (casey@boxinsurance.com) if you have a prospect so we don't have double up efforts!

Our next meeting will be Monday, October 12th at Tolbert's at 5:30. We will chat about where we stand with auction items and set goals for all of the
committee members.

I have also attached the Wish list for our BIG Auction items!
