Ladies, There’s
never a dull moment with the Women’s Division! And this past month was no
exception. We are up to 122
members with 94 renewals and 28 new members and a warm welcome goes to
all. There was SeniorFest
for those “55” and older with entertainment and a Veteran’s
program. Kathy DeMaggio and
Duff O’Dell out did themselves for this themed “Sock Hop”! A style show with fashions
provided by Graceful Buys and a food drive was the program for the
August luncheon chaired by Nancy Reid. We welcomed Delsie and Irvin
Bowling our Veteran of the Year from SeniorFest at the luncheon! Grapefest
is right around the corner and the “Beer Babes” will be back
pouring. Please contact Pam
Norman at wwcpropmgr@village.com or Linda Swirski at swirskil@tx.rr.com to become a “Beer Babe” for a few
hours of enjoyment and help the Women’s Division. Our days to pour are Thursday,
September 17th and Friday, September 18th till As
we go into fall, BJ Wilson is busy in the planning stages of the “ Our
next luncheon will be September15th and reservations can be made by
emailing Jan Smith at rbsjss@verizon.net
or calling 214-202-8700. I
look forward to seeing all of you at the September luncheon. Please remember we are a service
organization wanting to help this community. Candy
Letica President
I want to advise our members that we will no longer allow the purchase of raffle tickets with a credit card. Due to the fact that this is a cash drawing, all purchases need to be done with cash. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please remember to bring your "dollars" to purchase tickets. Linda Oliver
We did it! When we
opened our doors at the We were well staffed with Women’s Division volunteers who did a wonderful, expeditious job of greeting and serving the nearly 300 families who came to the center that day. We handed out brand new school supplies and backpacks to each child, and smiling faces were everywhere. The process went very smoothly in our new location, thanks to the efficient assembly line set up by our experienced and hard-working volunteers. The school supplies and backpacks not claimed by the end of the day were delivered to GRACE to be available to families throughout the school year. We received tremendous support from the Grapevine community. Among the contributing organizations are: Wal-Mart, consistently a strong partner for Christmas Spirit projects. They provided a nice selection of high quality, reasonably priced backpacks that allowed us to provide a range of colors and styles for the kids to choose from. Nearly all of the little girls who wanted pink or purple backpacks went home with big smiles. The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, which responded with generous cash donations every time we asked. Rotary Club, which donated a sizable sum of money that our own Judy Sherman converted to a whole carload of beautiful backpacks. The Grapevine Optimists, who adopted
our Class Act School Packs and Jana Ezzo, who provided flawless service and setup. Baylor Medical Center, which donated 200 backpacks for the older kids. The Grapevine Community Activities Center, which made two adjoining rooms available to us at no cost, and set them up just the way we wanted them. They made it easy for us to serve all of the families who came through on that day. Staples gave us a bonus donation of school supplies that we delivered directly to local schools. In addition, we received generous corporate donations from several local businesses, among them Joe & Balla Wright of Wright Rental. Century 21 Mike Bowman (Commercial Division), Reflections Stained Glass, and Kathleen DeMaggio of About Advertising. We sincerely apologize if we’ve missed anyone—the results are still coming in, and many, many extremely generous donations of cash and backpacks were made anonymously. GRACE is truly one of this community’s treasures, and it is the behind-the-scenes organizational work done year-round by Pat, Idell, Terri, Cari, Rusty, and the rest of the group’s caring souls that makes our part of these projects easy, and brings to much benefit to the area’s low-income citizens. We are so fortunate to be able to work with them.
The most important contributors are, as always, our wonderful Women’s
Division volunteers. We’ve
made a lot of schoolchildren very happy this month, given them a good
start on the new school year, and provided substantial budget relief to
their families.
Without each and every one of you we would not be able to do any of
this!

Ladies, Can you believe it’s really time to say
farewell to the summer of 2009 and get ready for an action packed Fall! The August luncheon was a
great event featuring the style show hosted by Graceful Buys. Thanks so much to everyone who
contributed to the success of the program and especially the models who
showcased all the great bargains for future shopping sprees at Graceful
Buys. Our membership is up to 125 ladies, with 28
new members and 97 renewals. Please
remember to invite a friend to the next luncheon and encourage membership
to share the Women's Division experience and grow our bouquet of talent. Linda Montgomery, Jane Chevier and their team
sent our local kids back to school in style with new back packs and school
supplies. The fruits of labor
from our successful fundraisers are truly seen in the results of this
project via the smiles and personal pride expressed by our local children. Another huge “Thanks” goes to
all who contributed backpacks, donations, and time in organizing the
effort and for providing essential tools to more than 600 local kids. Our next very fun project will be manning the
“Beer Booths” at Grapefest. We
are responsible for being “Beer Babes” Thursday, September 17th
from 9:30 AM to closing at 10:45 PM. and Friday, September 18th
from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. If

Girlfriends - December 5th is just around the corner
and we've got lots of planning to do for the Holiday Charity Ball
(formerly Anniversary Ball). Our theme this year is "Let it Snow, Let
it Snow, Let it Snow." The Ball is one of our 2 main fund raising
events for the year and proceeds go to provide school supplies and
necessities for senior citizens. Our community has come to count on us for
these programs and I know we will come through smelling like roses once
again - but we need your help. ... and from the Auction CommitteeI would like to invite Women's Division members to the September Silent Auction Committee meeting. It will be held Monday, Sept. 21st at the Chamber office at 5:30 pm. We are looking for items off of our
wish list as well as gift cards to local retailers and restaurants. Other
items that will help us reach our goal are Rounds of Golf, tickets to
concerts, sporting events, etc. We are promoting the Holiday Charity Ball
as a very easy way for companies to have a Holiday party for their
employees, so I would like to have some auction items that business owners
would buy as a way to entertain clients and/or reward their valuable
employees. An example would be a BBQ hosted at a local venue where a
restaurant donates the food and drinks for 25-50 people and a facility
lets the group use their venue for a night. 2009 ü
